It may be a first thought to have your bathroom wall or floor tile replaced when it becomes unsightly. This isn’t always necessary. Go back and remember the cost of demolition and installation. Remember how much the kitchen backsplash cost you? What about the tile in the foyer? If you had the option to restore and/or repair them instead of replacing them thus saving lots of $$$$, would you?

Consider the large bill that will accompany such a renovation. That along with obtaining work permits and giving up your home to a team of workers and inspectors from your city will produce one thing: a Headache! Stone Makeover always advises residents and business owners to have us come out and do a free estimate for them. We try to salvage what you have when it is possible. The labor and material costs can be alarming and draining. Contact us today for a free in-home or business estimate.

Many times, home owners want to pinch their budget and decide to have sealant applied later. There are several reasons why it isn’t a smart move to skip out on applying sealers. Sealers are important to the finish and longevity of your product.

In order to understand the importance of sealers, you must first know what they do. Sealers, when applied to grout, soak deep into the grout. In its dried state, it makes your grout and tile virtually waterproof. Beyond that, the sealer also helps protect against mold and mildew due to excessive moisture.

There are some other reasons to apply sealer to your wall or floor tile. One of the more obvious reasons is that it enhances the life span of your tile and grouting job and the longevity of the “shiny” or “glossy” look. It also adds a certain shine to the tile. The sealer blocks a lot of dirt from getting deep into the grout. When you shower, the grout soaks up a lot of water. Eventually it causes mildew and mold to form. Using a sealer protects your grout from such instances.

In the end, it’s worth it to apply a sealer to your bathroom wall and floor tile throughout the house. As always, hire a professional to install and seal the tile for you. We at Stone Makeover are experts in what we do. Installing and sealing floor and wall tiles what a part of what we do. We service residential and commercial properties.

It’s grout week! Great information coming to help you understand and not be frustrated with the appearance of your grout!

Remember when you first put your bathroom tile in? You would walk in the bathroom and stare at the beautiful design it created on your walls. The color of the grout plays a big part in the overall look of your tiles whether they are in the bathroom, kitchen or flooring throughout the house. Over time, the grout gets chipped, cracked and/or dirty. It can often times develop a stained or dull look to it. The original proud moment you had for your new bathroom becomes like a distant memory.

Why does the grout crack or chip away?

The liquid in the grout mix will evaporate over time. This evaporation will leave the grout susceptible to cracking and chipping. If you are wondering if there is something you can do to prevent this, put your mind at rest. This is the structure of the water and grout mixture. It eventually evaporates.

Some of the other reasons for grout cracks and chips are due to poor installation procedures. Time is another factor. Over time the grout just attracts dirt and the elements that make it crack and chip. You can always find some do-it-yourself articles, but it is recommended, especially in the case of marble tile, that you hire a professional. It will ensure your tiles are not damaged and are properly cleaned. The new restored look will put that original smile back on your face!

We recently (on 05/14/10) restored a customer’s marble floors which had stains, etches and scratches. After we completed the job the customer was so pleased she let the company’s owner know just exactly how pleased she was and wanted to know how she could keep her floors looking the way they did after we completed the job. The fact that the owner of the company showed up once the job was complete just goes to show you how committed Stone Makeover is to having satisfied customers, we aren’t doing our job right unless your satisfied!
