Problem
This grand hotel in Manhattan was graced with travertine stairs, but fifteen years ago a decison was made to cover the stone stairs with carpeting. Later, the owners removed the carpeting and found that the travertine underneath was damaged with holes from carpet nails and worn in grit and dirt that had ruined the finish. They called us to bring back the granduer of the travertine staircase.
Solution
This was a major undertaking and one we were glad to be a part of. After our technicians removed the residual carpet glue with an alkaline cleanser and filled all holes in the stone with an epoxy mix that matched the surrounding area. The stairs were then honed and polished. The project was a resounding success as you can see in the AFTER image. Notice how the overhead lights reflect on the stone's surface.
